The Confession Initiative

PrintThe Diocese of Tulsa produced a public service announcement that will begin to air on local television soon. It promotes the Confession Initiative, an hour of confessions on Tuesday evenings in every parish. This initiative is one of many efforts of the Diocese to promote the Year of Faith.

Transept small windows 008The video features many of the Cathedral’s windows which focus on the theme of forgiveness. These six windows are in the transepts of the Cathedral, along the wall where penitents wait to go to confession. The windows recount:

  • The Parable of the Prodigal Son
  • Jesus Knocking on our Door
  • The Parable of the Lost Sheep, and
  • The Anointing at Bethany,
  • plus the two windows that contain the only complete sentences in the Cathedral’s windows: “Behold the price of sin,” “I absolve thee of thy sins,” and “Behold the Lamb of God who taketh away the sin of the world.”

The “actors” are Holy Family’s own Fr. John Grant and Mike Malcom.

The Cathedral’s seventy-two windows are copies of the famous Mayer windows created in Munich, Germany. Dozens of churches around the world copied the windows, including the Catholic cathedral in Denver, Colorado. Fearful that they would be damaged during World War II, the windows were moved from Munich to Dresden. The windows were destroyed during a bombing campaign during the war.
