The Rector’s Report: October 2013

Dear parishioners of Holy Family Cathedral,

It is with great joy that we welcome our new Associate Pastor, Father Louis Obirieze, to Holy Family Cathedral. Father comes to us from his native country of Nigeria in Africa. Our hope is that he will enjoy his time with us here at Holy Family. He joins several other Priests from his native land who serve here in our Diocese. They have been a tremendous gift to us, in that without them, many of our parishes would be without a priest. So while we welcome Fr. Louis to our life here at Holy Family we also thank him for his generosity in coming to serve our diocese.

IMGP1964I would also like to thank Bill and Cherrie Hughes, Fr. John Grant, Fr. Matthew La Chance and Mike Malcom for making the Duncan Stroik event so very successful. Bill and Cherrie sever as Chair Couple for the Centennial year. Fr. Grant came back from his stay in Mundelein to assist us that weekend. Fr. La Chance and Mike Malcom conducted the tours of the Cathedral after Mr. Stroik’s very informative lecture. This was certainly a wonderful way to celebrate our One Hundred years.

The next event in our Centennial celebrations will be insights to the wonderful and generous woman who made the original Holy Family Church and the Institute of St. Therese possible in 1899. St. Katharine Drexel will come personally to share some insights into her life and ideals on October 20, 2013. Be sure to mark that date on your calendar.

Also, congratulations to Jim and Susan Gray for the Jim Foley Award of this year. Their continued and constant service of this parish is most appreciated and noteworthy.

Sincerely in the Holy Family,

Msgr. Gregory A. Gier
