More Black Legends: April 29 & May 27

More Black Legends in the late Spring 2014Bring your friends, including ex-Catholics, non-Catholics, and anti-Catholics. Questions, comments and arguments are welcome.

The Schedule:
Tuesday, April 29: The Reformation
Tuesday, May 27: The Church in the Modern World

All sessions will be held from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., downstairs in the Heiring Auditorium.

April 29: The Reformation. Were the “bad Popes” really that bad? Did the Church try to hide the Bible? Did Catholics try to buy salvation with indulgences? Who was Martin Luther? What did the Reformation really accomplish? Where did phrases like “bloody Mary” and “Jesuit equivocation” come from? Why is there such fierce religious hatred in Ireland? Answers may surprise you — and will certainly surprise your Protestant friends.
Bring your friends, including ex-Catholics, non-Catholics, and anti-Catholics. Questions, comments and arguments are welcome.

May 27: The Church in the Modern World. What really happened at Vatican II…and afterward? Why have so many things changed since Vatican II? Why have so many things not changed since Vatican II (like the Church’s teaching on contraception)? Where do the postwar Popes (namely Pius XII, John XXIII, Paul VI, John Paul I, John Paul II, Benedict XVI, and Francis I) stand in the history of the Church? What’s the truth about the sex scandals? Where does Catholicism go from here? Expect unblushing comments from me — and, no doubt, spirited remarks from the audience.
