Something New: VBS for the Whole Family

100_5266The Cathedral’s VBS is going in a new direction this year: lessons and activities for the whole family.

Let’s learn about the Church! This year’s Vacation Bible School will focus on three aspects of the Church: the visible church building, the people who pray there, and the saints in heaven.

The Visible Church – including Holy Family Cathedral – is full of physical reminders of spiritual realities. Children will learn about the parts of the church building and how they reflect the Church’s teachings and beliefs. Adults will go on a “scavenger hunt” to find symbols “hidden in plain sight” in the Cathedral.

The People of the Church will focus on the laity and the clergy with an emphasis on the roles we have to play that are unique to our station in life.

The Church in Heaven will explore the saints and angels: what they are and how they’re different.

VBS will be on Sunday evenings in July on the 13th, 20th and 27th. There is no fee, but donations to cover food and supplies are welcome. We will set a donations basket out near the food.

5:00 p.m. Mass (unless you go at a different time)

6:00 p.m. Dinner

6:30 p.m. Adults’ Session / Children’s Session

7:30 p.m. Joint session / Drama / Closing Prayer

8:00 p.m. Blessing and Dismissal

The Adults’ Sessions will be designed for all parish adults whether they have kids to bring or not. The Children’s Sessions will include lessons, arts & crafts, music, and other fun activities.

Since this is new for all of us, please register so we know how much food to get and how many art supplies to buy. Use this VBS form or send an email with this information to

We are seeking volunteers to help with the children’s sessions. You must be a covered volunteer who has completed the Diocesan requirements for working with children. If you are a covered volunteer, contact Monika Davis or Mike Malcom at
