The Truth about the Reformation: Calvin’s Reformation

Third Session: Luther’s Reformation

May 12, 2015    7:00-8:30 p.m.    Holy Family’s Heiring Auditorium

John_CalvinJohn Calvin (that’s not his real name) was and remains a mysterious personality. But his thoughts and writings may be even more important than Luther’s. Luther invented Protestantism, but Calvin shaped it.

Learn how Calvin created a Protestant city-state at Geneva which maintained its own “inquisition” while encouraging the spread of Calvinism elsewhere, especially in France. Hear the truth about the infamous St. Bartholomew’s Day Massacre.

Study the “five points” (or are there six?) of Calvinism which permeate Protestant theology and preaching. Few Protestants today really agree with Calvin – but most Protestants today continue to repeat his message.

Every Christian – Catholic or Protestant – needs to know these things. Questions, comments and arguments are welcome.

This session is part of the series The Truth About the Reformation. If you’re attending for the first time, read this introduction to the series.
