Traditional Posadas Held at Wednesdays at the Cathedral

dsc_0008This year the Cathedral added a new tradition. We celebrated a traditional Posada. In a traditional Posada the Pilgrims travel from house to house and at the last house they are let in with feasting and games for the children.

Despite the cold evening the crowd was enthusiastic.

After a brief explanation of the Posadas our pilgrims left the
Cathedral and processed around from one door to another, Mary and Joseph led the way. The Pilgrims were turned away until they reached the Heiring Auditorium. The Auditorium was decorated and a food was provided in the the tradition of Hispanic hospitality. dsc_1021

dsc_0959After feasting the children both young and old prepared to attack the Pinata. The Pinata has seven points. The seven points represent the seven deadly sins that need to be destroyed by the ‘sinner’ who is blindfolded (signifying blind faith).  Hoping to conquer sin, he attempts to hit the swaying piñata with a stick and break open the center, which bestows him with ‘blessings’ (candy). In the end it was Father Jovita who broke the pinata for the children.

Since a picture tells a 1000 words. Here is a link to some of the pictures taken Wednesday night.
