Ever wonder what goes on “behind the scenes” in the sacristy? Ever wonder who takes care of the altar linens, shines the candle sticks, and Purifies and polishes the sacred vessels?
Every Saturday morning for many years, a small group of women (and on occasion a few good men) have been coming to do these simple, yet very important tasks. The washing and ironing of altar cloths and chalice linens, the sewing of altar cloths and repairing to vestments are just some of the duties of the altar society. There are many little things that are necessary in keeping things in order during the liturgical year. Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter are especially busy times for this group. We are eager to have others join us on Saturday mornings from 8:00-9:00.
If you would like to volunteer to assist with these church details, simply meet us after the 8:00am Mass on Saturdays just outside the Chapel of Peace. You’ll see us! We’re the ones scurrying around as we begin our work! You may call the parish office to contact someone from the altar society.
