Posada’s for Wednesday Night at the Cathedral

            Join us this Wednesday for a Very Special Edition of Wednesdays at the Cathedral. We will be taking part in Traditional Posadas.   Posadas is a tradition brought to New World by Spanish missionaries. Attending a posada, the traditional procession that symbolizes Joseph and Mary’s journey to Bethlehem, is somewhat like stepping back a century and a half to simpler, less complicated times. Throughout Mexico and many other countries of the Spanish-speaking world Las Posadas are an annual custom for the nine nights preceding Christmas. The Posadas emphasize Mary and Joseph’s long and frustrating search for a place for Jesus to be born. Pilgrims go in search of lodging, singing their request at each stop. All Saints and All Souls Days 2016

November is the month that we remember our dearly departed. This week we Catholics set aside two days to honor our dead, All Saints Day and All Souls All Saints Day is a Holy Day of Obligation. Holy Family Cathedral teaming up with Nightlight Tulsa to Serve the Poor

Next week we will meet on Thursday Night – there is no Wednesday at the Cathedral   As Intentional Catholics we are called to practice Corporal Works of Mercy.  Join us Thursday evening  August 25 for a night of service to the homeless and working poor. We will be teaming up with Nightlight Tulsa. Nightlight Tulsa is an outreach ministry with the mission of Lighting up Tulsa through Loving Individuals, Giving Hope and Touching Souls. They accomplish their mission by serving hot meals and providing essentials such as soap, deodorant, first aid, clothing, and foot washing. Nightlight Tulsa serves approximately 200 homeless and low income individuals. Wednesdays at the Cathedral is a Family Faith Formation program sponsored by the Office of Family Evangelization here at the Cathedral. Each week we offer an affordable dinner and a program designed to educate and edify us in our Catholic Faith. On Wednesday, August 10 we were joined by Abbott Lawrence of St. Gregory’s in Shawnee.  He has been most gracious to share this presentation with us here, so that anyone who missed it may see it.   Wednesday at the Cathedral starts back up this Wednesday, August 3. This Wednesday we will be joined by author Maria Ruiz Scaperlanda. She will be here to discuss her recent book on the life of Father Stanley Rother, martyr. Maria is a well known Catholic author and journalist who has been published in Columbia, Our Sunday Visitor, St. Anthony Messenger and other national and diocesan publications. Maria was part of the commision organized by the Arch Diocese of Oklahoma City that collected information and prepared a report to send to the Vatican, requesting to reopen the cause for Sainthood for Fr. Rother. Father Stanley Rother was born in Okarche, Oklahoma. Five years after he was ordained he went to Santiago Attilan, Guatemala as a missionary to the Incan Indians.
